1.Biodiesel has higher lubricity (it is more "slippery") than petroleum diesel. This is a good thing, as it can be expected to reduce engine wear.

2. Biodiesel contains practically no sulfur. This is also a good thing, as it can be expected to result in reduced pollution from engines using biodiesel.

3. Biodiesel has a higher oxygen content (usually 10 to 12 percent) than petroleum diesel. This should result in lower pollution emissions. But, relative to petroleum diesel, it causes slightly reduced peak engine power (~4 percent).

4. Biodiesel is much less toxic than petroleum diesel. This can be a real benefit for spill cleanups.

I think the most important difference about biodiesel fuel compared to regular fuel is that it is renewable (it can also be domestically produced and is cleaner); instead of being produced from fossil fuels, it can be manufactured from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant grease.

Another major benefit of biodiesel fuel is that it is non-toxic when combusted. Compared to petroleum fuel, it produces significantly less particulates, CO, SO2, and hydrocarbons. These pollutants are extremely dangerous when released in high quantities into the environment.

I would like to emphasize how important it is that biodiesel is renewable because unlike diesel, coal burning, and other fossil fuels, it is not a limited resource since it can be regenerated through production by recycling other materials.
