State functions
Are the only state functions we've learned so far deltaH, detltaG, and deltaU? But the w and q are not state functions?

Re: State functions
Heat and work are not state functions because work is proportional to the distance traveled, meaning that the path taken does matter.

Re: State functions
All of the functions you mentioned are state functions, as well as Gibbs free energy. Heat and work depend on the path taken and thus require more analysis to calculate, as opposed to simply final minus initial states.

Re: State functions
Yes, heat and work (q and w) are not considered state functions because they are dependent on the path taken whereas E, P, V, T, densities, and heat capacity as well as the ones we just learned deltaU, deltaH, deltaG, deltaS are all state functions.

Re: State functions
Heat and work are not state functions; they are considered "path-dependent" functions

Re: State functions
State functions is a property that depends only on the current state of the system and is independent of how that state was prepared. In addition, if the components of a function are all state functions, then the overall equations is a state function. For the U=q+w, since q and w are both not state functions, then U is not a state function.
Hope this helps!

Re: State functions [ENDORSED]
Since q and w are not state functions, you cannot do calculations with just final minus initial.
