Calculation methods

Postby Payton Schwesinger 1J » Thu Feb 01, 2018 11:24 pm

For the equation deltaG = deltaH - delta(TS), when calculating the standard enthalpy of the reaction, can you also use Hess's law or mean bond enthalpies? Professor Lavelle mentioned using standard enthalpies of formation in class but not the other two methods so I wasn't sure.

Yes, I think you can use them! I also wrote in my notes that Professor Lavelle mentioned the various methods of calculating delta H.

Yes, I believe that you can use any of the methods we have previously learned to calculate delta H

It would make sense seeing as they as both state functions so you're probably right!
