### Residual Entropy

Why is it that molecules with a greater dipole moment have smaller residual entropies?

A greater dipole moment means that the molecules experience more attraction to one another and lie head-to-tail in a more orderly fashion, so their residual entropy is lower. Molecules with smaller dipole moments can be in either direction, resulting in a higher residual entropy.

Lower dipole moments mean that molecules are able to move more freely as opposed to being held tightly by stronger dipole moments. Moving freely= more positions can be occupied --> higher residual entropy
