Entropy

Postby Tiffany Cao 1D » Fri Feb 02, 2018 4:39 pm

When a system is heated, experiences an increase an volume, or a decrease in pressure, entropy increases. In what other scenarios will entropy increase?

When the system goes from solid to liquid, or liquid to gas, entropy also increases. If a reaction creates more mols of gas than were previously present then entropy increases as well.

it's good to note that the entropy of a system decreases only when it interacts with some other system whose entropy increases in the process.

Entropy can increase when molecules are broken down.

can you elaborate on why entropy increases when molecules are broken down please?
