acronym for reduction
I know that "LEO" is an acronym for oxidation reactions, but is there an acronym for reduction reactions?

Re: acronym for reduction
GER: Gain Electrons Reduction. This pairs great with LEO, Loss Electrons Oxidation. "LEO GER" sounds like Leo, a lion, grrring!

Re: acronym for reduction
You can also use "OIL RIG"
Oxidation Is Losing (e-)
Reduction Is Gaining (e-)
Oxidation Is Losing (e-)
Reduction Is Gaining (e-)

Re: acronym for reduction
On a related note, to remember where oxidation and reduction occur on a battery model, you can remember that oxidation occurs on the anode (An OX, like the animal), and reduction occurs on the cathode (RED Cat) :)

Re: acronym for reduction
As someone already mentioned "LEO the lion says GER" is a good way to remember that Losing Electrons = Oxidation and Gaining Electrons = Reduction!
Another helpful acronym for remembering which part of the redox reaction occurs at the cathode vs the anode is
"Red Cat" = REDuction occurs at the CAThode and "An Ox" = OXidation occurs at the Anode

Re: acronym for reduction
OIL RIG is a good one to memorize the difference between oxidation and reduction. It is an abstract word that is easy to remember.
