what is the conceptual difference of an irreversible and a reversible reaction, and why are most biological reactions irreversible?

Re: irreversible reactions
A reversible reaction occurs at equilibrium, while an irreversible reaction is not at equilibrium. Biological reactions are irreversible because irreversible reactions are usually much quicker.

Re: irreversible reactions
In an irreversible reaction, infinitely small changes occur that allow the reaction to end at equilibrium. In a reversible reaction, finite changes occur, usually quickly, that result in no equilibrium within the system.

Re: irreversible reactions
A reversible process is at equilibrium and energy can move back and forth. An irreversible system is a process that cannot be reversed by an infinitesimal change in a variable.
