Oxidizing/Reducing Agents

Is the oxidizing agent basically just the the molecule that is being reduced (gaining electrons)? and the reducing agent the molecule that is losing electrons (oxidized)?

Yes, that is correct. The oxidizing agent (the one being reduced) is the one taking the electrons, so it is effectively oxidizing the other compound. The reducing agent (the one being oxidized) is the one releasing the electrons/giving them to the other compound, so it is effectively reducing the other compound.
