Cell Potential and Spontanaeity

Postby Katelyn B 2E » Tue Feb 20, 2018 7:03 pm

I know that a process is spontaneous when delta G is negative. Is a process spontaneous or non-spontaneous when cell potential is negative?

It is spontaneous when cell potential is positive and not spontaneous when cell potential is negative

If the overall cell potential E is negative, by deltaG = -nFE, deltaG would be positive, indicating a non-spontaneous reaction.
