Units for 15.3 Part B

Postby Hena Sihota 1L » Sat Feb 24, 2018 4:49 pm

Part B asks you to determine the rate of formation for O2. The solutions manual gives the units in (mol O2).L-1.s-1. Is it wrong to leave the O2 out of the units and just leave it as mol.L-1.s-1?

I believe the (mol O2) is just to specify that the answer is for the moles of O2. Usually when we answer questions we don't need to specify that.

I think they put that just to distinguish that they were referring to moles of oxygen. I don't think we would have to put that in every problem

I believe you do not need to put O2 in it since it is just a comment to specify the substance calculated.

The solutions manual is just trying to distinguish between the different reactants and products so that the reader doesn't get confused as to why there are multiple same answers for different reactants/products.
