## Integrated Rate Laws

$aR \to bP, Rate = -\frac{1}{a} \frac{d[R]}{dt} = \frac{1}{b}\frac{d[P]}{dt}$

### Integrated Rate Laws

Are we being expected to derive integrated rate laws on the test or just use them?

### Re: Integrated Rate Laws

The derived rate laws are not on the constants sheet, and as Lavelle emphasizes, he never asks specifically the steps for derivation, but I assume it would still be helpful to understand the derivations and at least memorize the derived formulas and how they are used.

### Re: Integrated Rate Laws

I would say it will be helpful to know how to derive those equations.

I thought that derivations were fair game.

I think it would never hurt to know the steps to derive them, but I feel like any test questions will focus on application, not derivation.

### Re: Integrated Rate Laws

There's never going to be a question that directly asks "derive this equation." But it certainly could be helpful to know the derivations in order to solve problems and simply for the stake of understanding where the equations come from.

It would be helpful to know and understand it but you shouldn't be expected to derive it on a test
