When it comes to equations in quantum mechanics, Dr. Lavelle mentioned that a key concept is that their variables are quantisized or discrete. Could someone further elaborate what he means by a quantisized or discrete variable?
What I understood from it was that quantum mechanics deal with things that are generally small in value. It's needed to talk about the behaviors of small objects and the small amounts of energy they accept, such as electron energy levels and small particles of light. I'm not sure if that helps much but that's my understanding.
Classical mechanics does not have discrete quantities, so variables could take any value. This led to assumptions about quantum systems based on classical mechanics being incorrect, as was the case with black-body radiation.
