### Homework 1.9

How do you know what event goes with each once you know have the numbers?

Hi!

The way I went about this problem is I looked at the wavelengths I found and then I associated each with an event.

In class I believe we mentioned these sample wavelengths for each component of the spectrum of light:
Radio 10cm - Microwave 1mm - IR 1 micrometer - Visible 700-400nm - UV 100nm - x-ray 1pm - gamma ray 0.1pm - etc.

The events given to us in this problem are:
suntan - which is UV light
reading - which is visible light
microwave popcorn - which corresponds to radio
dental x-ray - which corresponds to x-rays

The values for the wavelengths we find are:
340nm - this falls within UV light thus the event is suntan
600nm - this falls within visible light thus the event is reading
1m - this falls within radio thus the event is microwave popcorn
2.5nm - this falls within x-ray (2.5nm=2500pm) thus the event is dental x-ray

I hope this helps! :)

Hi, yes! You just refer to the electromagnetic spectrum to see where the wavelengths you found lie.
