amplitude and intensity

Postby megangeorge-1K » Fri Apr 20, 2018 9:02 pm

Does anyone know if we will be tested on amplitude and intensity on Test 2? Its in section 1.2

thank you :)

I believe the test will cover up to section 1.5, if I'm not mistaken. Basically, all of the quantum material we've learned up until DeBroglie's Equation.

Yes, I believe it will be covered because it will most likely be mentioned in a problem, but not specifically tested!

Also I think it's important to note that if any question says that "brightness" is increased or decreased, they are talking about the amplitude of a given wavelength, not the frequency. Just so you know how it might be applied in the test.

I could see it being mentioned on the test because I believe it was discussed in class.

I agree it's fair game for the test. If you find yourself looking for a study source about the subject, pages 146-151 in the pdf version of the textbook were pretty helpful to me

It is important to just keep in mind that increasing the intensity of light does not cause electrons to be ejected

Does the intensity just refer to the brightness of the light?

Yes I believe we will be tested on that and everything else up until De Broglie's equation.

Yes, it does. Intensity/brightness of the radiation is determined by the square of the amplitude.
