Wavelengths

Postby huntercrespo1C » Fri Apr 20, 2018 12:53 pm

For the wavelengths spectrum do we need to know all the exact lengths for microwave, infrared, visible (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet), x- ray, y-ray or just the general idea?

Hi! You don't necessarily need to know the exact lengths, just the order of which have higher energy and lower energy and the differences between them in terms of properties.

I think it also helps if we know the order of frequency of the electromagnetic waves, which is the inverse of the wavelength order.

Yes, In discussion my TA suggested we know the order of increasing wavelengths which would also help in knowing the frequency since they are inverse of one another.

My TA said that just as you know the general ranges and order of the wavelengths you should be fine. She did say that it would be best if you knew that visible light is 400 to 700 nm.

My TA told us that we just need to have a general understanding of the order which helps know which waves have larger or smaller wavelengths and frequency.

Dr. Lavelle also mentioned that you should primarily know the order of increasing wavelengths.

Probably need to understand their differences relative to each other.

I am focusing on the order of increasing frequency and wavelength of the visible light colors.
