### Uncertainty Equation significance

Yesterday in lecture we went over the uncertainty principle. But I just don't understand why we use it, what significant information do we get from it?

### Re: Uncertainty Equation significance

One significant thing about the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle we learned in lecture Friday is that it tells us that atoms have a physical limit to the minimum size that atoms can exist.

### Re: Uncertainty Equation significance

The equation essentially tells us if a particle is present within a certain range of position. Recall the example from class where the equation proved that an electron cannot be inside the nucleus of an atom (of course we knew that already but the Heisenberg Indeterminacy equation is one way to prove it).

### Re: Uncertainty Equation significance

Would there ever be any instance in which a particle can exist beyond its range of uncertainty?

### Re: Uncertainty Equation significance

The uncertainty principle is rooted in the fact that the process of observation influences the outcome of the experiment, and that there is a limit to the accuracy to which we can know the exact momentum and position of a particle.
