## Schrodinger equation definition?

$H_{\psi }=E_{\psi }$

1-D: $E_{TOTAL}\psi (x)=E_{k}\psi (x)+V(x)\psi(x)=-\frac{h^{2}}{8\pi ^{2}m}\frac{d^{2}\psi(x)}{dx^{2}}+V(x)\psi(x)$

### Re: Schrodinger equation definition?

The purpose of this equation is to find both the wavefunction (phi) and the corresponding energy (E). This equation helps us calculate the wavefunction for any particle. The textbook also mentions that this equation is a differential equation, the second derivative of phi, because it relates the derivatives of the Schrodinger equation to the value of the function at each point but I don't think we will need to know that about for this class. The main thing about this equation is to know that it helps us find the wavelength of a particle.

### Re: Schrodinger equation definition?

The Schrondinger equation basically helps us find the equation's wave function. Once we know this then we can find the quantum numbers and shapes of the orbitals that characterize electrons.
