Textbook Example 8.13: Bond Enthalpy

How do you know which bonds form/break? There are 6 C-H bonds in CH3CHCH2, why don't those break? The equation is attached below.

Since the final product is given, you can safely predict which bonds will be broken/unchanged. In this case we have an example of an electrophilic addition of bromine to propene. In this electrophilic reaction the C=C double bond is broken, and a bromine attaches to to each carbon, forming the aforementioned product.
