Molecular Orbital theory
Is molecular orbital theory to prove whether bonds between atoms can exist?

Re: Molecular Orbital theory
I think that the M.O. theory is used to determine the structure of a molecule, especially if it has delocalized electrons (as in, the electrons are not tied to any pair of atoms, like in benzene).

Re: Molecular Orbital theory
I think I remember Dr. Lavelle saying the molecular orbital theory also helps determine the energy differences within a molecule, but I'm not entirely sure.
Re: Molecular Orbital theory
So, MO theory allows us to find the bonding order and the magnetic properties but why does knowing those things help us i.e. what are they for?

Re: Molecular Orbital theory
The midterm covers only up to the end of hybridization, so there is no MO Theory.
