Question 2A:

For the reaction 2CO(g)+O2(g)-->2CO2(g)
Without doing calculations, predict the sign of Change in entropy of the system.

How do we know that the change in entropy of the system is less than 0?

There is a shift from more gas molecules which means more collision and interaction on the reactants side to the less active right side of the equation. The reaction is spontaneous which means that that deltaG =-#. deltaG=deltaH-tdeltaS. there are more moles on the left than on the right which increases the q value of the reactants, and when subtracted from the smaller q value of the products and put over temperature (2nd law) the delta S is going to be less than zero (negative).
