Question 3A of Winter 2014 Practice Final

This question asks us to pick the chemical to build the galvanic cell. Lavelle mentions that many students make the mistake of picking copper. Why can't we pick copper? Is it because copper can't be used to build a redox half reaction?

Though copper is a good conductor of electricity it is not wise to pick copper because it has more than one charge. (Also a lot of these have more than one charge, but they are actually good for cell diagrams, whereas copper is not because it can't be used in redo half reaction.

I'm not quite sure how to go about answering this question without being given the values for the reduction potentials. I looked at previous answers for this question, but I'm still confused. In the course reader, we aren't given the reduction potentials, but some of the previous answers have said that the values should be given in order to solve this question (I believe?).
