Quantum Numbers

Postby Matthew Lee 3L » Thu Nov 02, 2017 4:31 pm

How come n can go all the way up to 7, but l only goes up to 3 because there are only s, p, d, and f orbitals?

l can go to a higher level but we're not dealing with them in this class.

Remember that l = (n-1) so if n=7, then the possible l values are 0,1,2,3,4,5,6

Yeah, as the person above me stated if n = 7 l = 0,1,2,3,4,5,6. But in class we're only working with l=0,1,2,3.
