problem 3.75

This textbook question asks for trends in electropositivity for the first two groups of the periodic table. In the solutions manual it gives a list of the elements in order of increasing electropositivity. Within the list it states that Beryllium is more electropositive (more willing to give up electrons) than lithium. How can this be? I though lithium would be more electropositive because it has the same principle quantum number and lithium only has one electron in its valence shell as opposed to 2.

HI! Perhaps you read the solution manual wrong? you are right in that Beryllium should have a greater value for electropositivity than Lithium. Checking my solutions manual for the same problem you are referring to, the answer agrees with that answer and is correct.
