### Hybridization in Carbon

Why is the hybridization of a Carbon atom with two single bonds and one double bond sp^2?? I would've expected it to be sp^3 because isn't it still making 4 bonds?? Or since the double bond is one area of electron density it counts as one bond??

The double bond counts as one domain of electron density and when determining hybridization the type of bond does not matter. Only the number of electon domains, so it would be sp^2.

Remember you're only counting the REGIONS of electron density so single, double, and triple bonds are all considered as one region of electron density

Any bond (single, double, or triple) only counts as one region of electron density.
