### The Slow Step of a Reaction

I understand that the slow step of a reaction is the step that ultimately determines the overall rate and rate law. However, I was just wondering if the slow step in a reaction mechanism can ever be a step that is in equilibrium? Or are the fast steps the only ones that can be in equilibrium? Thanks so much!

I think both slow step and fast step are not the overall step in the equilibrium.
The step in the equilibrium should be a combined step.

From my understanding, fast steps are the only ones really that could be in equilibrium.
