how does the rate of change of one species in a reaction relate to another species?

In terms of rate, and considering a reaction A -> B + C, the rates will be (-1/a)d[A]/dt = (1/b)d[B]/dt = (1/c)d[C]/dt. In finding each rate of each species, you would multiply the unique rate of the reaction by its coefficient.

By the stochemiistry coefficients, and the unique rates.

The ratio is what relates them (Stoich). They are joined by the coefficients.

the coefficents of the balanced reaction relate the rates to each other
