Biological Function on Final?

Postby Jose Lupian 1C » Sun Jun 03, 2018 9:24 pm

Are we expected to know specific functions for different transition metals on the final? For example, chromium assists insulin in controlling blood sugar levels.

It may show up as multiple choice for the final so I would study it just in case.

According to a UA session, the UA said to know

Cisplatin
- chemotherapy drugs: stops cancer/cell growth
- forms coordination compounds with DNA to stop cell division

Hemoglobin
- transports oxygen in blood
- 4 Myoglobins to bind 4 Oxygen molecules

So we are not supposed to know specifics? For example that cobalt has to do with vitamin B12 or that different transition metals like Mn, Ni, Cu and Zn have to do with different enzymes?
