Sig Figs

Postby Julia Lung 1I » Tue Mar 12, 2019 10:26 pm

I heard from my TA that sig figs will be graded. Has anyone heard something similar or different?

I would assume so, but I can't confirm. I also have concerns about how sig figs are graded. They seem to mark you down on sig figs if you so much as have another decimal place beyond the sigfigs in the work.

i'm not 100% sure, but i think sig figs still count. but i was told that for the midterm they wouldn't count for thermo questions. don't know if that still applies

I believe sig figs will be important on the exam. I believe TAs had checked for sig figs in the midterm, so I assume it’ll be the same for the final as well

I believe that typically sig figs do matter on an exam and will be graded, so I would say to be safe always try to have the correct sig figs written.

I think they are worth one point per question based on the midterm, so I think it is graded.

I haven't heard exactly but I would expect that they will be watching them since this is the final. Tbh just make sure you're not giving a 10 digit answer when it's using 2 digit numbers and you should be fine.

They are checked but will not be super important. Just a couple points per problem

If you look at Dr. Lavelle's midterm solutions it says minus 1pt for not including sig figs. So it is graded but you will not lose a lot of points for it. Just try to keep it in mind. Hope this helps.
