Practical Application of Sig Figs?
Hi, I am wondering how sig fig rules are applied to problems. I know the rules of Sig Figs, but I am not so sure about how they are used in practical sense. If you can give me an example, I would greatly appreciate it! Also, will I have to study heavily on this concept for the test?

One example that I can think of is working in a lab. When you are diluting a solution, for example, you want to make sure that you have the correct number of sig figs so that you can measure out the correct amount of concentrated solution and add it to the correct amount of water to produce the desired dilution. Sig Figs tell you the correct level of persison that you must account for in the lab.

Sig figs are used so that measurements do not appear more precise than possible with the given information. It helps show uncertainty.

I think they're basically so that the uncertainty in a study or lab can be communicated
