### E=hv

Can E=hv be used to calculate the energy required to remove an electron?

### Re: E=hv

Yes, you can, but it also depends on the context/given information of the problem.

The formula can be used to find the energy of light of a given frequency.

### Re: E=hv

The equation spelled out is "energy = planck's constant x wavelenght", and since you want to find energy, this equation would be perfect, that is, if you are using it in the correct context.

### Re: E=hv

In this case, the equation says that the energy of a particle of light is proportional to its frequency by a constant factor. Therefore, this equation can be used to calculate the energy required to remove an electron.
