Coefficient in front of orbitals

Postby Brandon Valafar » Thu Dec 05, 2019 7:19 pm

How do we know when to include a coefficient in front of the hybridized orbitals? And what coefficient do we put in what situations?

the coefficient tells which energy level the orbitals came from

so if it was 2sp then the s and p orbitals came from the n = 2 energy shell

dont think we need to write it at all on the final tho

Most of the common hybridization combinations have n=2 as the coefficient
