### Work and Battery system

I still don't understand how A battery system has to do with work? Why is the amount of energy that leaves the system -w? And When does energy leave a battery system?

A battery will always do work because it's potential must be positive for it to provide energy to do work in the first place. Energy leaves a battery when it is being used.

Is work and delta G related?

Yes, work (max) equals delta G under constant temperature and pressure.

He basically already wrote out the exact formula. At constant temperature and pressure, $w_{max} = \Delta G$. You can think of delta G as the amount of energy that is released that is free to do work. Therefore, the maximum amount of work that can be done would use up all of that released energy, meaning the two are equal.

Oh ok, so under these conditions they are basically equal to each other. Thanks!
